In an interview on DZRH’s Damdaming Bayan, Atty. Lito Magno, Assistant Director for Regional Operations Service of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), assured the public that the agency’s work continues despite the resignation of former NBI Director Jaime “Jimmy” Santiago.
When asked whether the investigations initiated under Santiago’s leadership would still push through, Magno affirmed that the bureau’s efforts remain consistent across multiple areas.
“Aside from the flood control issue, the NBI continues its work on various aspects of crime resolution and assistance in other cases—particularly those that are frequently in the news,” Magno said.
Magno also addressed inquiries about the Pogo (Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators) raids, noting that the agency is now reviewing the legal framework and special status of its ongoing and future operations.
“Since we come from the legal service, we are now looking into the special status of our operations,” he explained.
On the issue of smuggling, Magno confirmed that the NBI is actively collaborating with the Bureau of Customs, especially in the fight against agricultural smuggling, which continues to affect farmers and the local economy.
“We are particularly involved in the area of agricultural smuggling,” he added.
Magno emphasized that the NBI’s commitment to law enforcement and inter-agency cooperation remains strong, ensuring that investigations and anti-crime operations will not be derailed despite the leadership transition.
On Monday, the Palace confirmed that the irrevocable resignation submitted by Santiago had been accepted by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
