The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) may once again summon 18 individuals who identified themselves as former Marines and security aides of resigned Congressman Zaldy Co. in connection with a complaint filed by Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list Representative Leila de Lima and 2025 Ramon Magsaysay awardee Fr. Flaviano Villanueva.

NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag told DZRH News that the agency is still scrutinizing the libel and cyber libel complaint filed by the two, and clarified that there are currently no plans to issue a third subpoena to the former Marines and their lawyer, Atty. Levi Baligod, regarding the affidavit issue.

De Lima and Villanueva had previously denied allegations from the former soldiers claiming their involvement in a so-called “maleta delivery” from Co.

Earlier, Baligod admitted to an “oversight” in listing De Lima’s name among those allegedly receiving kickbacks from flood control projects. He maintained, however, that he was present at meetings where a paper bag containing money was handed to him.
