The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has begun an investigation into an alleged assassination plot against President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., reportedly involving former President Rodrigo Duterte.

In the report of DZRH's Jecelle Ricafort, NBI Director Melvin Matibag said the bureau is also reviewing statements made by Davao City Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte, who allegedly remarked that they “only need one head,” referring to the president. A memorandum detailing the investigation is expected to be released soon.

The probe follows a statement from Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, who reiterated that the NBI is mandated to investigate all death threats, whether against the president or private citizens.

The allegations stem from a supplemental affidavit submitted by a witness identified as Madriaga to the House Justice Committee, claiming that Duterte had planned an assassination or coup should Marcos refuse to step down by 2025.

The affidavit is part of ongoing impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Authorities have yet to verify the claims as the investigation continues.
