NBI identifies group behind defacement of Senate, other government websites
by Elijah Gaven Mitra15 June 2026

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has identified the individuals allegedly responsible for the recent defacement attacks on several government websites, including the Senate’s official website.

NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag said authorities have already pinpointed the persons involved and are now preparing the appropriate legal action against them. According to Matibag, the suspects belong to a single group but consist of different individuals.

“Actually, we have identified the person involved now. But we will act accordingly. So, huli natin 'yan. We will wait to answer kung ano 'yung ginawa nito. Isang grupo sila pero iba-ibang tao,” Matibag said.

Meanwhile, Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) Executive Director Usec. Aboy Paraiso assured the public that no sensitive data or confidential information was compromised during the cyberattacks.

Paraiso said the hackers could face charges for computer-related offenses, including computer manipulation and malicious mischief, under existing cybercrime laws.

The statement comes after the websites of the Senate and the House of Representatives experienced defacement attacks on three separate occasions over the weekend, prompting investigations by cybersecurity and law enforcement authorities. Officials continue to monitor government systems to prevent similar incidents and strengthen cybersecurity defenses.
