The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is considering the possibility of re-bidding the ₱2.4-billion NBI main building project in Manila after discovering that the contract had been awarded to the construction firms owned by Curlee and Sarah Discaya.

NBI Director Jaime Santiago confirmed to DZRH News that the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board (PCAB) has already revoked the licenses of the Discaya-owned companies involved in the project.

Santiago said the bureau is currently awaiting guidance from Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon on the next steps to take regarding the project’s implementation.

According to the NBI chief, Phase 1 of the construction which covered demolition works and the laying of the building’s foundations has already been completed. With this, the bureau will not reclaim the ₱200 million paid to the Discayas for the first phase.

Santiago has also ordered NBI engineers to inspect the foundations to ensure that the work was done properly, clarifying that the probe does not imply any anomaly at this stage.

The NBI aims to complete the new building by 2028, a project that began between 2022 and 2023, before Santiago assumed leadership of the bureau.

Earlier, Santiago revealed that two Discaya-owned construction firms, including Way Maker General Contractor OPC, had secured the multimillion-peso contract.
