The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has completed its investigation into the drowning incident during the Ateneo de Manila University men's basketball team's team-building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora, which claimed the lives of student-athletes Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili.
According to information obtained by DZRH from the NBI, the bureau's Homicide Division is targeting Monday, July 13, to submit its investigation report and recommendation to the Department of Justice (DOJ), in a report on DZRH'S Dos Por by RH Jecelle Report.
More than 20 individuals were questioned during the investigation after being subpoenaed by the NBI. Among those who appeared before investigators were resigned Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin and ADMU President Rev. Fr. Roberto "Bobby" Yap.
The NBI has yet to confirm whether criminal charges will be filed or identify any individuals who may face prosecution in connection with the drowning incident.
Earlier, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) recommended that the DOJ file two counts of homicide and two counts of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide against Baldwin and eight other individuals over the deaths of the two student-athletes.
The CIDG also recommended filing charges against Baldwin and 10 members of the coaching and support staff for alleged violations of Republic Act No. 11053, or the Anti-Hazing Act.
The NBI and the CIDG conducted separate parallel investigations into the deaths of Baterbonia and Adili, who drowned during a team-building activity in Aurora on June 8.
