The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has sent a follow-up letter to the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) seeking the issuance of a red notice against resigned congressman Zaldy Co, an official said Tuesday, April 7.
NBI Director Melvin Matibag said the bureau is awaiting a response from Interpol after submitting a second communication regarding the request.
“We sent a second letter, follow-up letter namin so hopefully sumagot na sa Interpol, nasa kanila na ang bola diyan eh,” Matibag said.
Matibag declined to confirm earlier remarks by Jonvic Remulla, who said the red notice could be issued this week or next.
The interior chief earlier disclosed that Co is believed to still be in Portugal, based on the latest information available to authorities.
The NBI, through the Philippine Center on Transnational Crime, first requested the issuance of a red notice on November 23, 2025.
Co has been declared a fugitive by the Sandiganbayan in connection with his alleged involvement in anomalies linked to flood control projects.
