Agents from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) have arrested a man for the alleged sexual abuse and maltreatment of his 7-year-old niece in Cavite province, officials said Friday.

According to a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort, the suspect, identified by the pseudonym "Ambo," was taken into custody by the NBI-Homicide Division in Dasmariñas following a formal complaint lodged by his own relatives.

According to NBI investigators, the suspect had been entrusted with the care of the minor. However, instead of providing protection, the bureau found evidence that the suspect had allegedly maltreated and repeatedly abused the child.

The victim told her parents that her uncle had touched her private parts on multiple occasions.

The suspect has undergone inquest proceedings and faces charges for violating Republic Act No. 7610, also known as the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.

The victim is currently in the custody of authorities. The NBI stated that it is coordinating closely with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to provide the child with the necessary medical and psychological interventions.
