Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic will miss the remainder of the regular season due to a left hamstring injury, leaving his postseason availability in doubt.
Doncic, the NBA’s leading scorer at 33.5 points per game, is slated to miss the final five contests. The timing is particularly costly for his trophy case: the injury leaves him at 64 games played, one short of the 65-game minimum required to qualify for MVP and All-NBA honors.
His agent, Bill Duffy of WME Basketball, informed ESPN that they will file an "Extraordinary Circumstances Challenge" to the league’s eligibility rule, citing Doncic’s historic season and his role in lifting the Lakers to third place in the Western Conference.
"To ensure that Luka's incredible accomplishments this season are rightly honored... we intend to apply for an 'Extraordinary Circumstances Challenge' to the 65-game rule," Duffy said.
The Lakers (48-29) now face the challenge of defending their playoff seeding without their primary offensive engine, whose return date remains undetermined.
Doncic's Season Totals:
-
Scoring: 33.5 PPG (1st in NBA)
-
Assists: 8.3 APG
-
Rebounds: 7.7 RPG
-
Games Played: 64 (Status: Ineligible for awards pending league appeal)
