The observance of National Heroes’ Day in Metro Manila was "generally peaceful," with no untoward incidents reported, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) confirmed on Monday.
According to the report by RH Jecelle Ricafort, NCRPO Director Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin told DZRH that police forces were deployed in strategic areas to ensure public safety during official ceremonies and various activities across the capital.
Aside from government-led activities, a protest rally was also staged in front of the Chinese Embassy in Makati City by the group Filipinos Do Not Yield (FDNY) Movement, denouncing China’s alleged harassment in the West Philippine Sea.
The protest also featured a short dramatization and the throwing of rotten tomatoes at replicas of the People’s Liberation Army Navy and China Coast Guard vessels.
The youth-led protesters condemned the recent 'dangerous maneuvers, bullying, and water-cannon attacks' carried out by the China Coast Guard against Philippine Coast Guard vessels near Bajo de Masinloc in Zambales on August 11.
The demonstration, which drew around 50 participants, concluded peacefully at around 10:40 a.m.
