The Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) has arrived at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City to serve former House Speaker Martin Romualdez his arrest warrant on Monday evening, reported RH 52 Edniel Parrosa.
Shortly after, PNP Chief PGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. himself joined his men at the hospital.
In addition, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla showed up after confirming that he will witness Romualdez being served his warrant.
Earlier, the media, particularly the PNP press corps and reporters on the Sandiganbayan beat, had received information regarding Romualdez’s alleged presence in the hospital.
Prior to the arrival of police at Romualdez’s reported location, the Sandiganbayan Third Division issued an arrest warrant stemming from a plunder case against the former speaker, resigned Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Elizaldy Co, and two others in connection with ₱7.4 billion in flood control kickbacks.
The other co-accused are Joselyn Tragua Serenio, Romualdez’s personal aide, and Felicito Cristobal Guevarra, president of Samchan Foreign Exchange Corporation.
In addition, a Hold Departure Order (HDO) has been imposed against the four.
The accused, once caught, will be placed behind bars at the New Quezon City Jail.
This is a developing story.
