The rehabilitation of Terminal 4 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) will no longer push through, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said Friday.

According to a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort, MIAA General Manager Eric Ines said that the New NAIA Infra Corp. has verbally informed the airport authority that it would not proceed with the planned rehabilitation of Terminal 4.

Ines said, however, that MIAA has yet to receive an official communication from NNIC (New NAIA Infra Corp.) regarding the decision.

Instead of being rehabilitated as a passenger terminal, the former International Cargo Terminal site, which was supposed to be the location of the upgraded Terminal 4, will be converted into an aircraft parking area, Ines said.

He explained that the growing number of flights and passengers at NAIA has increased the need for additional aircraft parking space to accommodate more operations.

Ines said the move is intended to maximize NAIA's capacity as passenger and flight volumes continue to increase.

Meanwhile, Ines said construction of NAIA Terminal 5 at the former Philippine Village Hotel site is being accelerated.

The new terminal is expected to be completed by the end of 2027 and is intended to help address the airport's growing passenger demand.

As of writing, NNIC General Manager Angelito Alvarez is yet to make a statement on the decision.
