Several flights have been delayed and canceled on Monday morning, Labor day, as power outage hits Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) - Terminal 3.
In a statement, the management of Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said a power outage occurred at about 1:05 am, and a generator is currently providing electricity to some facilities.
Computer systems of the airline and immigration offices are only partially operational, it said.
“The MIAA Engineering team together with MERALCO technical personnel are now looking into the cause of the power failure,” MIAA said.
According to the agency, its operation personnel are providing assistance to the affected passengers and answering their inquiries.
“The MIAA Management apologizes to air travelers for the inconvenience that the situation may have brought to them,” it said.
Meanwhile, interviewed during DZRH’s Magandang Umaga Pilipinas, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said the power supply is expected to be fully restored within the day.
“Nandito ang Meralco, kausap namin ngayon at tinitingnan pa nila kung ano ang naging problema. Ang power natin ngayon ay generator muna dahil inaayos pa ng Meralco ang linya,” he said.
Baustista noted that air conditioning systems in some areas of NAIA Terminal 3 are not functioning despite the backup power supply.
