Officials from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Department of Transportation (DoTr), Land Transportation Office (LTO), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted inspections and random drug tests on bus drivers at Cubao terminals ahead of the holiday rush.

MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes said the operations aim to ensure safe, orderly, and convenient travel for commuters and prevent untoward incidents. “Our inspection aligns with President Marcos Jr.’s directive to prioritize passenger safety at all times,” he added.

DoTr officials, PDEA, Quezon City Traffic and Transport Management, and the PNP-Highway Patrol Group participated in the inspection along EDSA. Authorities deployed K-9 teams for drug detection and safety checks, while full personnel deployment is in place to manage Metro Manila traffic, with an estimated 437,000 vehicles on EDSA.

Random drug testing seeks to ensure drivers are fit for long-distance travel, giving commuters safer transport during the peak holiday season.
