MTRCB to PUV operators: Only ‘G’ and ‘PG’ films allowed during Holy Week travel
by Mika Jenymae Rasing31 March 2026

Only ‘G’ and ‘PG’ rated films should be streamed inside public transportation during the Holy Week trips, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) reminded public utility vehicles (PUVs).

In a statement, the MTRCB told PUV operators and other common carriers, such as: bus operators, sea vessel operators, and others, to strictly follow their rules on screening only age-appropriate films for passengers, especially during the Holy Week rush.

“The Board reminds all common carrier operators that only motion pictures and/or trailers classified by the Board as for general patronage or ‘G’ and parental guidance or ‘PG’ shall be exhibited inside such common carriers,” the MTRCB’s memorandum dated March 24 read.

A “G” or General Patronage rating means that the film is suitable for all audiences. MTRCB Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto explained that G-rated films have no content considered harmful or inappropriate for children. Meanwhile, a “PG” or Parental Guidance rating says that some themes or scenes require guidance from parents or supervising adults for young viewers.

The agency’s monitoring and inspection unit will continue to conduct on-ground inspections to ensure compliance.

According to MTRCB, the unit carried out two inspections last week to remind operators and passengers of the imposed rules.

“As families travel together this Holy Week, we want to ensure that what is shown inside public transport remains safe and appropriate for all passengers, especially children,” Sotto highlighted. “By showing only ‘G’ and ‘PG’ content, operators help create a more respectful and family-friendly environment for everyone on board.”

The reminder is part of MTRCB’s push for “Responsableng Panonood,” an initiative that promotes mindful and guided media consumption.

Operators who fail to comply may face suspension or cancellation of permits, including fines and other administrative penalties.

Sotto urged Filipinos to pause, reflect and draw meaning from the observance of Holy Week.
