The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has proposed a ₱197.898 million budget for 2027, its chairperson Diorella Maria “Lala” Sotto-Antonio said during a Senate budget hearing.

Of the proposed allocation, ₱53.39 million, or about 27%, will be sourced from the national government and used for personnel services.

The remaining ₱144.51 million, or about 73%, will come from the agency’s own revenues and will fund maintenance and other operating expenses and capital outlay.

Sotto-Antonio said ₱35.78 million of the proposed budget would be allocated for information and communications technology software and equipment, particularly for the second year of the redevelopment of the agency’s transaction and collection system.

The hearing also touched on the MTRCB’s oversight of streaming and other online services.

MTRCB officials said the agency coordinates with streaming platforms such as Netflix, HBO and Disney, but currently has no legal mandate from Congress to proactively regulate or restrict general online social media platforms and digital video games.

Sotto-Antonio said the agency is prepared to regulate additional online services if Congress expands its jurisdiction through legislation.

“I would like to emphasize that the MTRCB is not for prohibition but for regulation. We will accept the challenge if the legislators would include the said online services, streaming platforms, the subscription video on-demand services in our jurisdiction or our purview,” Sotto-Antonio said.
