Mount Kanlaon emitted ash once again early Wednesday morning, marking the second ash emission recorded this week, according to the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory of the DOST-PHIVOLCS.
The ash emission began at 6:54 a.m. and lasted until 7:40 a.m., producing grayish plumes rising up to 100 meters before being blown southwestward by the wind.
PHIVOLCS said Alert Level 2 remains in effect over Kanlaon, indicating ongoing unrest that could lead to further phreatic or steam-driven eruptions. Residents and visitors are strictly prohibited from entering the 4-kilometer permanent danger zone around the volcano.
Following the renewed volcanic activity, Acting PNP Chief PLtGen Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has ordered the Police Negros Island Region to strictly enforce the “No Entry” policy within the danger zone to ensure public safety, as reported by Edniel Parrosa.
Around 135 personnel have been deployed in critical areas surrounding the volcano, which also emitted smoke on Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, PHIVOLCS also recorded increased seismic activity at Mount Bulusan in Sorsogon on the same day, while Taal Volcano in Batangas experienced a minor phreatic eruption on Monday.
Authorities remind the public to remain alert and follow advisories from local government units and disaster response offices, emphasizing that the recent volcanic activities are a reminder of the country’s persistent volcanic unrest.
