The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), which operates LRT-2, will offer free rides to women passengers on March 8 in celebration of International Women’s Day.
In separate advisories, MRT-3 and LRT-2 announced that female commuters may avail themselves of free rides from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at all their respective stations.
“Bilang pakikiisa sa pagdiriwang ng International Women’s Day ngayong Marso 8, 2026, handog ng DOTr-MRT-3, sa pangunguna ni GM Michael J. Capati, ang #LibrengSakay para sa lahat ng kababaihan,” the MRT-3 said in its advisory.
The rail line added that the initiative is a simple gesture of gratitude and recognition for the significant contributions of women to society.
According to LRTA Administrator Hernando Cabrera, the initiative symbolizes the agency’s continued support for women and recognition of their vital role in shaping a more progressive and just society.
“Sa bawat biyahe ng kababaihan—bilang lider, manggagawa, ina, estudyante, at tagapagtaguyod ng pagbabago—nararapat lamang silang kilalanin at ipagdiwang. Ang libreng sakay na ito ay munting handog bilang pagpupugay sa kanilang lakas, dedikasyon, at inspirasyon sa ating bansa,” Cabrera said.
