The Manila Police District (MPD) warned Manileños that they may be charged for setting up portable swimming pools and tents along roads, according to a Wednesday report.

In a report by RH 29 Boy Gonzales, PLtCol. Ronald De Leon, Chief of the Raxabago Police Station 1 said these set-ups are obstructions to the flow of traffic and may endanger motorists and pedestrians, even if erected only on weekends.

Although the police do acknowledge that residents are merely looking to cool themselves off amid the oppressive summer heat, the MPD stressed that existing ordinances and laws must be observed, especially when they affect order in public spaces.

Earlier, the MPD Station 1 reprimanded and ticketed a number of Tondo residents for various violations during an operation.

Among the violations were assembling inflatable and improvised pools on roads, cooking on roads as if in a personal kitchen, and the improper disposal of garbage. These practices, the MPD said, are hazardous and inconvenience the public.

The MPD announced that it will ramp up its patrols in Tondo, alongside barangay officials and “tanod” or security officers, to continually enforce order and safety.
