The Manila Police District (MPD) has identified the suspect who punched a police officer during the Labor Day protest held along Kalaw Avenue.
According to a report by RH Boy Gonzales on "Dos Por Dos," in addition to the assault case, police are also working to identify another rallyist who allegedly took a mobile phone from an officer amid the demonstration.
According to MPD Director Gen. Arnold Santiago, authorities are pursuing leads not only on the individual who struck a policeman but also on a separate suspect accused of snatching a cellphone from an officer who was documenting the protest.
Santiago said the incident occurred while the officer was positioned near a barricade and taking photos of rally activities.
The suspect reportedly grabbed the phone and fled during the commotion.
The MPD chief added that the suspect involved in the assault was identified through a video circulating online.
The footage, taken by a bystander, shows a protester punching a police officer stationed at the barricade during the rally.
Police are currently reviewing available video clips and photographs from the scene to confirm the identities of the individuals involved and to support the filing of appropriate charges, Santiago said.
