The Manila Police District (MPD) has formed a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) to focus on the probe into the killing of Lenenski Bacud, the 3rd nominee of the Ang Bumbero ng Pilipinas Partylist and former barangay chairman.

Authorities are currently looking into possible motives behind the fatal shooting, which occurred along Sta. Teresita Street, corner of P. Guevarra Street, in Sampaloc, Manila.

According to initial police investigations, Bacud was standing with several individuals when two unidentified suspects riding a motorcycle approached the area. The motorcycle's back rider got off and opened fire on Bacud without warning.

A police officer who happened to be in the vicinity responded to the attack and engaged the suspects in a brief shootout. However, the assailants managed to flee on their motorcycle toward Lacson Avenue and evaded capture.
