The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) continues search and rescue operations for a fisherman who went missing after a motor banca capsized in the waters off Barangay Dulong Bayan, Pitogo, Quezon on January 12, 2026.
According to Coast Guard Station Southern Quezon, the missing fisherman has been identified as Roldan C. Casinillo, 41, a resident of the barangay. Initial reports state that Casinillo was aboard the fishing boat DEDEN 1 when the vessel encountered rough weather while fishing off Pitogo.
Crewmembers said one of the fishermen fell into the water and was injured after being struck by the skiff boat’s propeller. Casinillo reportedly jumped overboard to help his fellow fisherman but was separated by strong currents and poor visibility. He was last seen wearing a yellow jersey and gray shorts.
"The incident was reported to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Pitogo, prompting the Coast Guard Sub-Station Gumaca to immediately initiate a joint search and rescue operations," the Coast Guard station said.
Efforts are being coordinated with MDRRMO personnel, Bantay Dagat, and volunteer fisherfolk. The search area has been expanded to nearby coastal waters and shorelines, including parts of Marinduque and the southern portion of Quezon province, with neighboring Coast Guard units also assisting.
As of the latest update, the missing fisherman has not yet been located.
The PCG urged fishermen and coastal residents to remain vigilant and immediately report any information that may help locate Casinillo to the nearest Coast Guard unit or local authorities.
