A senior citizen was found dead in the backyard on Tuesday evening after her son allegedly smashed a rock into her face, reportedly out of anger over her failure to prepare a meal for him.

According to a report by RH 32 Jimmy Angay-angay, the 35-year-old suspect had just returned from work when the incident occurred in Sitio Riverside, Barangay Macupa, Leyte, Leyte.

The suspect allegedly became enraged after his 77-year-old mother failed to prepare food for him. In response, he reportedly picked up a large rock and struck her on the head, causing her immediate death.

The suspect then fled the scene but was later arrested in a neighboring barangay during a manhunt operation. Authorities revealed that the suspect is suffering from a mental illness.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is conducting an investigation to further determine the underlying circumstances of the incident, while charges are being prepared against the suspect.
