Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso reminded the public of strict safety measures being enforced by the city government to ensure a solemn, safe, and orderly celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

Moreno stressed the strict implementation of Ordinance No. 5555, which prohibits the drinking of alcoholic beverages in public places within a 500-meter radius of Quiapo Church and its surrounding areas.

He also announced a temporary ban on the sale of liquor in the area during the celebration, warning vendors to comply with the regulations.

The mayor further reiterated the total ban on the sale and use of firecrackers across the city to prevent confusion, injuries, and other untoward incidents during the crowded religious event. Authorities will conduct heightened monitoring and enforcement to ensure public safety.

Moreno also appealed to vendors to act responsibly by refraining from selling bottled drinks and food on sticks, noting that these items could pose a danger to barefoot devotees during the Traslacion and other religious activities.

The city government, in coordination with law enforcement and emergency responders, is implementing comprehensive security and crowd-control measures for the annual feast.
