Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) said more protest actions against corruption in government are expected in the coming weeks as the group vowed to monitor the developments of the 2026 national budget deliberations, RH Jecelle Ricafort reports.
Bayan Secretary General Mong Palatino said they will keep close watch on the bicameral conference committee session on the proposed national budget, noting that various sectors will continue calling for the prosecution of high-ranking officials allegedly implicated in corruption, as well as accountability from President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. over supposed budget insertions.
Palatino added that the mass actions held on September 21 and November 30 showed the public’s demand for “truth, accountability, justice, and systemic change” amid the controversies hounding the administration.
He also criticized what he described as the administration’s “paranoia and brutality,” citing the incident where Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla stood on top of a container van near Mendiola as police set up barricades and barbed wire to block demonstrators.
On Sunday, November 30, the Trillion Peso March 2.0 was “generally peaceful, the Philippine National Police said. Contrary to violent incidents which transpired during the first Trillion Pesos March protest on September 21, where over 100 protesters were arrested in Manila.
