A worker of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) died while another was injured after they were electrocuted during a tree-pruning operation in Manila on Sunday, March 15.

The fatality was identified by the Manila Police District (MPD) as Noel Calanao, 46, a resident of Calumpang, Marikina City and a member of the MMDA pruning team.

Calanao was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

His co-worker, Dante Guardiano, 62, a resident of Rodriguez, Rizal, sustained injuries and is currently under observation at the same hospital.

According to the initial investigation by the Manila Police District Sta. Mesa Police Station, the incident occurred after the two workers came into contact with a live wire while carrying out the tree-pruning operation.

Both victims were immediately taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

A witness and fellow worker, identified as Allan Balbin, said their team was conducting the pruning activity when the accident happened.

The Manila Police District Homicide Section is now conducting a deeper investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
