The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Tuesday inaugurated its first Bike-to-Work End-of-Trip (EoT) facilities at the Motorcycle Riding Academy, marking a key step in promoting active and sustainable transport in Metro Manila.

The facility features four shower rooms, dedicated male and female units, and two all-gender rooms, alongside secure bike racks and changing areas designed to support daily commuters who cycle to work. The initiative aims to make cycling more practical, comfortable, and inclusive.

MMDA Chairman Don Artes said the agency plans to expand similar facilities across the metro in line with the administration’s push for sustainable transportation. He emphasized continued programs encouraging workers to adopt cycling as a viable mode of transport.

MMDA General Manager Nicolas Torre III highlighted that the project prioritizes cyclist welfare and serves as a pilot model for a more bike-friendly urban environment.

The agency is also seeking partnerships with private firms to help subsidize operational costs, while Republic Gas Corporation has pledged hygiene supplies for users. Around 1,700 cyclists currently use the EDSA bike lane daily, with MMDA exploring 24/7 operations for the facility.

Cycling groups and transport advocates welcomed the initiative, urging more public and private institutions to adopt bike-friendly infrastructure to support the growing cycling community.
