Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Nicolas Torre III called on Filipinos to uphold discipline, order and accountability as the country marked its 128th Independence Day on Friday, June 12.
In his message, Torre said the freedom fought for by the nation’s heroes continues to be safeguarded through responsible actions in the present.
“Ang kalayaang ipinaglaban ng ating mga bayani noon ay pinangangalagaan natin ngayon sa pamamagitan ng disiplina, kaayusan at pananagutan,” he said.
Torre highlighted this year’s theme, “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan” (Freedom, Future, History), stressing the role of citizens in shaping the nation’s future.
He urged Filipinos to reflect on how their actions today will influence the country moving forward.
“Alalahanin natin na ang kinabukasan ng ating bansa ay nakasalalay sa pinaggagawa natin ngayon,” he added.
Torre also echoed the MMDA’s campaign slogan promoting public discipline and proper conduct.
“Yes to ayos, yes to disiplina,” he said.
The MMDA chief ended his message by greeting the nation on the occasion of Independence Day and expressing hope for continued unity among Filipinos.
“Maligayang paggunita ng ika-128 anibersaryo ng Araw ng Kalayaan. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas,” Torre said.
