The death toll from the powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao has risen to 35, according to the latest data from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).

As of 8 p.m. Monday, June 8, the OCD reported 31 fatalities in the SOCCSKSARGEN region and four in the Davao Region.

Among the recorded deaths in SOCCSKSARGEN, 17 were from Sarangani, 12 from General Santos City, and two from South Cotabato.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said at least 12 individuals remain missing, while more than 200 others sustained injuries as a result of the quake.

Search, rescue, and retrieval operations continue in the affected areas as authorities work to locate the missing and provide assistance to displaced residents.

The strong earthquake struck at around 7:37 a.m. on Monday. It was initially reported at magnitude 7.0 but was later upgraded to magnitude 7.8 following further analysis by seismic monitoring agencies.

As of 2 p.m. on Monday, 258 aftershocks were recorded following the deadly quake, according to OCD.
