The Mindanao Grid will be placed under yellow alert status on Thursday, August 13, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

The yellow alert will be in effect during the following periods:

  • 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

NGCP said the Mindanao Grid has an available capacity of 2,785 megawatts (MW) against a peak demand of 2,604 MW.

The grid currently has 16 power plants on forced outage, including seven that have been offline since July, one since June, two since January, one since 2025, and one since 2024. Eight other plants are operating at derated capacities.

These outages and reduced capacities have left a total of 713.7 MW unavailable to the grid.

NGCP said the factors that contributed to the yellow alert in the Mindanao grid are as follows:

  • GNPK 2 (Maintenance Outage, July 28, 2026)
  • Emergency shutdown of GNPK 1 due to boiler tube leak (August 09, 2026)
  • High forecasted system demand

According to NGCP, a yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid's contingency requirement.

The grid operator urged consumers to continue practicing energy efficiency, particularly during periods of high demand.
