The death toll from the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck off Maasim, Sarangani, in Mindanao on Monday, June 8, has risen to 55, while 1,120 people have been reported injured, authorities said Friday morning.

According to the latest situational report from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), 31 people remain missing in the aftermath of the powerful earthquake.

Authorities said search, rescue, and retrieval operations are continuing in the hardest-hit communities as emergency responders work to locate missing persons and assist affected families.
