Online debate continues over which generation does it better—Millennials or Gen Z?

A new social media trend is gaining attention as brands compare the marketing styles of Millennials and Gen Z in a fun and creative way.

The online buzz centers on how two generations approach communication differently in the digital space.

Millennials, generally referring to those born between 1981 and 1996, are known for using formal, detailed, and structured language in marketing. Their content often focuses on complete information and a professional tone.

Meanwhile, Gen Z, born between 1997 and 2012, is known for a more casual and playful style. Their marketing often uses short captions, internet slang, and humor that connect quickly with online users. They are leaning toward short-form, meme-driven messaging, emojis, and direct reactions such as “it eats,” “no cap,” or “this is fire.”

The format gained significant traction in early May 2026, with companies staging side-by-side comparisons of how a Millennial marketing or PR team would present a product versus how a Gen Z social media team would do the same.

Fast food chains, coffee shops, milk tea brands, skincare labels, and even schools promoting enrollment announcements have participated in the viral format. Some posts have also gained international attention, with global brands and lifestyle products adapting the trend for their own audiences.

In the end, social media users are left with a simple question: Team Millennial or Team Gen Z?
