Two base commands of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) have been blamed for renewed armed clashes that forced hundreds of residents to flee several barangays in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao del Sur.
According to a report by RH Jun Dimacutac, involved in the latest fighting were the 105th MILF Base Command under Commander Abu Salwa and the 118th MILF Base Command under Commander Samad Simpal.
According to the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the clash began early Wednesday, September 30, in Barangay Malingaw.
Residents in nearby Barangays Bialong and Lapok were also affected by the armed conflict.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) said most residents in the affected areas have already evacuated.
Some displaced families sought temporary shelter along roadsides, while others stayed in evacuation centers or sought refuge with relatives.
