Here’s a thought: You’re seven years old again, watching Hannah Montana perform on stage. Only this time, it’s Miley Cyrus merging both Disney characters, singing directly to all the little girls and boys who once sang their hearts out to “The Best of Both Worlds.”
If you think the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special was enough to send fans into a frenzy, then you are not prepared for the lyrics of “Younger You.”
After closing the doors to the Disney Channel show’s iconic Malibu house, Miley strutted her way to a more intimate set — dressed up as a more elevated pop star (still rocking her blonde hair) — debuting a new song. “Younger You is an ode to the fans and to the fictional pop star who sang “This is the Life” at a local mall in the United States 20 years ago.
“It’s been an honor to celebrate 20 years of Hannah Montana. And I’ve looked back at every memory with a heart full of love,” Miley expressed.
“Hannah, she gave me my start, but my fans gave me this life,” she added.
The 20th Anniversary special was released on Tuesday, March 24, on Disney+. Some of the cast members, like Jason Earles, Moises Arias, Shanica Knowles, Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, and Cody Linley, attended the red carpet and premiere of the special, posing for photos alongside Miley.
“Last night at the premiere of the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special. Standing with Jason, Moises, Cody, Ana Maria, and Shanica the cast I grew up with was a full-circle moment I’ll never forget,” the “Flowers” singer wrote in her caption.
“We found our way back home, and it felt so good. Thank you for growing up with us. We love you. This special is from me to younger you,” she added.
As of writing, “Younger You” has yet to be released on music streaming platforms.
