Beauty queen Michelle Dee on Monday personally filed a cyber libel complaint against social media personality Xian Gaza at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) over the alleged spread of “fake news” about her.
In a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort, accompanied by her lawyer, Atty. Maggie Garduque, Dee lodged a cyber libel case against Gaza and the individuals behind several Facebook pages allegedly spreading false information about her.
Although she did not provide specific details of the posts, Dee stressed that Gaza’s statements should not be normalized, noting the importance of respecting women.
“The point here is that hindi i-normalize 'yung pagsasalita ng ganun towards mga babae. I think we should respect women's rights and privacy, especially for fake. But I think lalabas naman yan in the next few days,” he said.
Dee emphasized her trust in the justice system and expressed hope that the truth will come out, especially since real lives are being affected.
She admitted that the situation has been emotionally painful, describing it as “defamation” that has impacted her reputation.
“Challenging topics to deal with social media. I know I'm not the only one affected with this. I know it's part of my job as well. But with everything going on, kaya dapat lumapit na tayo sa mga tamang officials through them to could extend their help as well,” Dee said.
She added: “And all I'm here to do is call for accountability. Alam ko naman na artista ako. I'm a beauty queen also. I know scrutiny is always part of the job. Pero in cases like this, of course, it's a call for accountability against fake news, against misinformation.“
“Hindi po ito teleserye, totoong buhay po ang nakakaapektuhan,” she noted.
