Ten incidents of indiscriminate firing were reported in Metro Manila during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

According to a report in Rapido Hataw Balita by Jecelle Ricafort, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director MGen. Anthony Aberin told DZRH News that one of the cases involved a police officer in Parañaque City.

The officer reportedly fired his weapon in front of three minors due to noise from firecrackers.

Aberin added that nine civilians were also involved in incidents of indiscriminate firing in unspecified areas of Metro Manila.

He also confirmed that a woman was killed as a result of indiscriminate firing in Manila during the holiday season.

Authorities noted that some police officers had not covered or taped the muzzles of their firearms during this year’s holiday period.

Despite these incidents, the police previously declared the New Year’s Eve celebrations generally peaceful, with no other untoward incidents reported.
