Social media platforms owned by Meta recovered after a brief global outage Friday night, June 12, that affected thousands of users, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.

Meta said its platforms and tools have since been fully restored, with no known issues as of writing.

During the disruption, users reported being unexpectedly logged out of their accounts, while others encountered problems loading their news feeds. The outage also affected other Meta-owned services, including Messenger and Instagram.

The service interruption lasted about 30 minutes before operations returned to normal.

Frustrated users took to other platforms to share their experiences during the outage.

“It's an odd outage for me. Messenger is totally down. The Facebook app seems mostly functional besides Marketplace,” one user said.

Others expressed concern over possible security issues. “Thought somebody hacked me,” another user wrote.

Some users also reported limited functionality on Facebook. “I can't comment or react to any posts. Every time I try to view comments, it says ‘unexpected error has occurred,’” another post read.

Meta has not disclosed the cause of the outage as of the latest reports.
