Manila Electric Company (Meralco) customers will have to endure higher charges this October, following the power distributor’s formal announcement of its generation charge hike on Monday.

The energy provider will be charging an additional ₱0.2331 per kWh, or an equivalent of almost ₱47 for households that regularly consume 200 kWh every month, reported RH 52 Edniel Parrosa.

Last week, Meralco Spokesman Joe Zaldarriaga said the looming charge increase would account for “the depreciation of the peso, which affects costs of our suppliers that are mostly dollar-denominated.”

In September, Meralco’s rate was reduced by ₱0.19.
