Consumers of the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) can expect slightly lower electricity bills this month after the power distributor announced a P0.0428 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) reduction in its overall electricity rate for August 2026.
The adjustment brings Meralco’s overall rate to P14.7833 per kWh.
This translates to an estimated P9 reduction in the monthly bill of a residential customer consuming 200 kWh.
“Para sa mga residential customer ng Meralco na kumokonsumo ng 200 kWh, ang bawas-singil na ito ay katumbas ng humigit-kumulang P9 na tapyas sa kabuuang bill sa kuryente,” Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe Zaldarriaga said in a media briefing on Monday.
Meralco said the lower rate was largely due to a P9.5-billion refund approved by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), which will be implemented over six months starting this month.
