Consumers can expect lower power bills this month as Meralco announced a reduction in electricity rates driven by declining generation and transmission charges.
In a statement on Tuesday, December 9, Meralco said overall rates will drop by almost ₱0.36 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in December. The adjustment brings the average household rate down to ₱13.11 per kWh, compared to ₱13.47 per kWh in November.
For residential customers consuming 200 kWh, the cut translates to an estimated ₱71 decrease in their December bill.
Meralco said the primary factor behind the reduction was the lower generation charge, which remains the largest component of consumers’ monthly electricity expenses. The adjustment follows a ₱0.15 per kWh increase implemented just last month.
The power distributor assured customers that it continues to coordinate with power suppliers and regulators to help stabilize rates amid fluctuating market conditions.
