Manila Electric Company (Meralco) on Thursday announced an increase of around ₱0.15 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in electricity rates for June 2026 billing, driven mainly by higher generation charges.
In a briefing, Meralco Spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga said the adjustment will translate to higher monthly electricity bills for residential customers depending on their consumption level.
Under the new rate adjustment, households consuming 200 kWh are expected to see an increase of about ₱30.
Higher consumption will result in larger adjustments:
- 200 kWh — ₱30 increase
- 300 kWh — ₱45 increase
- 400 kWh — ₱60 increase
- 500 kWh — ₱74 increase
The power distributor attributed the upward adjustment primarily to increased generation costs during the billing period.
Meanwhile, Zaldarriaga reminded consumers to avoid posting photos of their electricity bills on social media, citing data privacy risks.
He said that electric bills contain sensitive personal information such as names, addresses, and account details that could be misused if exposed publicly.
“Madaming nagpopost ng kanilang actual na bill sa kuryente sa social media na nakalantad lahat ng information doon sa naturang bill.... Naglalaman ito ng personal at sensitibong information ng customers at maaari pong magkaroon ng data privacy issues,” Zaldarriaga said.
“Pakiusap po namin huwag na natin ilantad ang personal information na maaaring magamit ng may ibang hindi maganda yung hangarin,“ he added.
He added that customers with concerns may reach Meralco through official channels, including the Meralco mobile app, official social media pages, and customer service hotlines. Consumers may also send inquiries via text at 0920-9716211 or 0917-5516211, or call the Meralco hotline at 16211 or 8631-1111.
