The members of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) formally took their oath of office on Monday, September 15, before Court of Appeals Justice Pedro Corales.
RH Leth Narciso reported that the ICI can now begin its investigation into the irregularities on infrastructure projects, specifically with flood control.
The members took their oaths, led by Chairperson Justice Andres “Andy” Reyes Jr. and its members, former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Rogelio “Babes” Singson and SGV & Co. Country Managing Partner Rossana Fajardo.
Also present during the ceremony is Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, who will serve as the independent body’s Special Adviser.
Malacañang released Executive Order No. 94 last week, initiating the creation of a separate fact-finding body to investigate and weigh evidence against individuals involved in irregularities, anomalies, and misuse of funds concerning flood control and infrastructure projects nationwide.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is ordering the ICI to gather evidence and information on the said projects. Consequently, the independent commission’s findings would allow them to recommend possible charges to the following:
Office of the Ombudsman, Department of Justice (DOJ), Civil Service Commission (CSC), and other competent bodies concerned.
Marcos also announced in a press conference on Monday that the ICI has been granted powers to issue subpoenas.
