MBC Operation Tulong rolled out relief operations on Friday, October 3, for communities in Masbate affected by Typhoon Opong and in Cebu following the recent earthquake.
According to RH 52 Edniel Parrosa’s report, the MBC team, in coordination with Alagang Unilab and Aksyon Radyo, visited disaster-affected communities to deliver much-needed relief assistance.
In Cebu, Bogo City is identified as the most heavily affected area, followed by San Remigio.
According to data from the San Remigio Command Center, at least 2,154 individuals are classified as open evacuees, those who are not staying in official evacuation centers managed by the local government, but are instead scattered across various barangays.
Many of them did not register with local authorities and are now seen staying along roadsides or in temporary shelters, driven by fear of aftershocks and the uncertainty of returning to their homes.
Clean drinking water, the top request from affected residents, was among the first to be distributed. Relief packs containing essential items such as medicines, bottled water, milk, canned sardines, ready-to-eat food packs, and more were also given to the communities.
The team also served hot meals to residents in evacuation sites.
At least 500 relief packages were distributed in the town as of today.
Earlier, Missy Macuja-Elizalde joined staff and volunteers in repacking supplies to prepare more aid for distribution.
Meanwhile, strong aftershocks continue to rattle Cebu following the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck the area on September 30.
Among those who felt the tremors was the MBC relief mission team, which was on the ground during a mass wake who lost their lives in the disaster.
PHIVOLCS recorded a total of 3,952 aftershocks as of Friday morning.
Moreover, the latest official death toll for the Cebu earthquake is 68, after validation and revisions by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
Meanwhile, the reported death toll in Masbate province due to severe Tropical Storm Opong has risen to 20, according to the Office of Civil Defense in Bicol. The fatalities were recorded across 13 local government units in the province.
