Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso has ordered the release of ₱42.6 million in long-delayed benefits to 92 retired city employees, fulfilling a commitment to settle overdue obligations despite the city’s tight fiscal situation.

The payouts, issued during the city’s flag-raising ceremony on January 12, cover retirees with service records ranging from nearly 20 years to more than four decades. Some retirees received benefits exceeding ₱2 million, calculated based on years of service and accrued entitlements.

Mayor Moreno acknowledged that many retirees had waited years for their benefits, noting that the delays had eroded trust and morale among city workers. He emphasized that processing the claims is part of a broader effort to restore fiscal order and address legacy obligations.

The ceremony highlighted the longest-serving retiree, Roman Bandin of the City General Services Office, who logged 44 years and nine months of service before retiring in February 2024, underscoring the sacrifices of rank-and-file workers.

Domagoso urged city employees to continue demonstrating professionalism and quality service to taxpayers, stressing that public trust and fiscal recovery go hand in hand. “Give them special attention. Make them feel that every penny they give is worth it,” he said.

The City Treasurer’s Office readied and released the checks on the same day, signaling a renewed commitment to timely payment of obligations and honoring public servants’ decades of dedication.
