Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte inspected the ongoing rehabilitation project at Litex Market in Barangay Commonwealth on Saturday, highlighting the city’s efforts to improve safety, accessibility, and urban mobility.

The project included the repair and clearing of sidewalks to ensure safer passage for pedestrians along Commonwealth Avenue. Improvements also featured the installation of railings, 102 lamp posts, pedestrian walkways, and directional lights to address long-standing concerns over darkness, congestion, and traffic in the area.

As part of the city’s “Walkable City” initiative, Mayor Belmonte walked the stretch of Commonwealth Avenue to assess conditions and signal the start of broader sidewalk rehabilitation in the area. Vendors who previously occupied roadways and contributed to traffic buildup were also relocated to designated spaces inside the market.

The inspection was joined by Chief of Staff Rowena Macatao, District 2 Action Officer Atty. Bong Teodoro, District 6 Action Officer and City Market Administrator Atty. Mark Aldave and personnel from the QC Department of Engineering, as the city continues efforts to make public spaces safer and more pedestrian-friendly.
