Mayon Volcano recorded five volcanic earthquakes in the past 24 hours, including four volcanic tremors lasting between one to three minutes, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

In its latest bulletin issued at 12:00 a.m. on May 4, PHIVOLCS said the volcano remains under Alert Level 3, indicating a high level of unrest and the possibility of hazardous eruptions.

Aside from seismic activity, continuous lava flows were observed advancing through Basud, Bonga, and Mi-isi gullies, reaching up to 3.8 kilometers, 3.2 kilometers, and 1.6 kilometers, respectively. Lahar flow was also reported in three areas, posing risks to nearby communities, especially during rainfall.

The agency also logged 411 rockfall events and four pyroclastic density current (PDC) signals or hot ash flows.

Sulfur dioxide emissions reached 1,829 tonnes per day on May 3, a sign of ongoing magma movement beneath the volcano. Moderate steam plumes were observed drifting west-southwest.

PHIVOLCS further noted short-term deflation of the volcano, along with the onset of inflation on its northeastern flank.

Mayon has remained under Alert Level 3 in recent weeks due to increased activity, prompting the evacuation of thousands of residents within the 6-kilometer permanent danger zone.

Meanwhile, many residents are in need of assistance after thick ashfall from the volcano damaged vegetable crops in affected areas. Some livestock have also reportedly died due to prolonged exposure to volcanic ash.

Authorities continue to warn the public against entering the restricted area due to the risk of sudden explosions, lava flows, rockfalls, and pyroclastic density currents. Residents are also advised to remain alert for possible lahar flows, particularly during heavy rains.
