Mayon Volcano in Albay spewed ash on the evening of January 19, resulting in light ashfall in several areas of Legazpi City, officials reported.
Residents of Barangay Matanag captured video footage showing ash lightly covering streets and rooftops.
The Legazpi City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) confirmed that northern barangays and northern urban areas of the city were affected. Authorities issued a health advisory urging residents to stay indoors whenever possible and to use N95 masks or clean, damp cloths to cover their nose and mouth.
The advisory particularly cautioned individuals with respiratory conditions, such as asthma or other lung diseases, and those with comorbidities to take extra precautions.
Officials are monitoring the volcano’s activity closely and have reminded residents to stay alert to any further volcanic developments.
