Maymay has weakened into a low pressure area (LPA), but the enhanced Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat, will continue to bring heavy rains across large parts of the country on Friday, August 7, the state weather bureau said.
In its 5a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA is being monitored within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and was located approximately 620 kilometers east of Echague, Isabela.
The LPA is expected to be fully absorbed into the circulation of Typhoon Dolphin within the next few hours.
No Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal has been raised over any part of the country.
Despite Maymay's weakening, PAGASA warned that heavy rainfall and strong winds may still affect some areas, urging the public to remain vigilant against flooding, landslides, and other weather-related hazards.
The state weather bureau said the enhanced Southwest Monsoon or habagat will continue to bring rains, particularly over Central and Southern Luzon and the western section of the Visayas.
Occidental Mindoro will experience rains that could trigger flash floods or landslides, especially during periods of intense or prolonged rainfall.
Metro Manila, Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, and Antique will also have occasional rains caused by the Southwest Monsoon.
Meanwhile, Batanes and the Babuyan Islands will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the trough of Typhoon Dolphin.
The rest of Luzon and Western Visayas will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms brought by the Southwest Monsoon, while the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA said the effects of the Southwest Monsoon are expected to persist over the next three to four days, with residents in affected areas advised to monitor the latest weather updates and take necessary precautions against possible flooding and landslides.
