Private prosecutor Atty. James Bryan Ibrahim Alih questioned Office of the Ombudsman Central Records Division OIC Atty. Karen Batu about Vice President Sara Duterte’s declared business interests during her first term as Davao City mayor on Tuesday, September 15, the 25th day of her impeachment trial.

Alih asked Batu about the acquisition cost or capital declared for the businesses listed in Duterte’s Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs), particularly those already existing in her 2007 SALN.

“Base po dito sa tatlong SALNs, wala pong naka-declare na acquisition cost,” Batu replied.

Alih then remarked, “So similarly, may negosyo pero walang puhunan,” referring to the businesses listed in the SALNs without a declared acquisition cost.

Batu clarified that Duterte’s 2007 SALN had no declared stocks, while her 2008 SALN indicated stocks equity paid. She added that there were again no declared stocks in the 2009 SALN.

Alih then returned to the 2007 SALN and asked whether any acquisition cost or capital had been declared for the businesses already existing at the time.

“Wala pong dineclare si VP Sara,” Batu said.

When Alih asked if this meant there were businesses but no declared capital, Batu replied, “‘Yun po ‘yung nasa SALN.”

The exchange formed part of the prosecution’s presentation of Ombudsman records in Article II of the impeachment case, which concerns allegations involving unexplained wealth, false SALNs, and continued business interests.
