Maxine Bautista and Paolo Borromeo set the ice rink ablaze with their back-to-back wins at this year’s Philippine National Figure Skating Championships on November 8, held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Bautista was once again hailed the champ of the senior women’s category after earning a score of 139.21, securing her a second medal from the competition.

The 20-year-old figure skater said she is more confident now than she was in previous competitions after better mastering her technical elements (e.g. jumps, spins, etc.), reported Millie Borja of DZRH’s Matchpoint.

Meanwhile, Borromeo succeeded in defending his title in the senior men’s category after receiving a score of 142.9.

Borromeo said he plans to rest up and spend some down time with his family in Cebu before resuming training for the SEA Games this December.

Philippine Skating Union President Nikki Cheng said she sees Filipino skaters further improving in their craft, a sign of better futures for figure skating in the country.
